Winter Is Here...
...but you probably didn't need me to tell you.
Winter photography is something I have avoided in years past. This is partly due to my tendency to take off to warmer places during this time - this year will be no different. However, until then, I'm making it a goal to get out and snap a bunch more snowy scenes this year.
There's a couple things working in my favor to accomplish this. For example, getting up to catch an 8:30am sunrise isn't as difficult as the 5:30am summer sunrises. Though the sun sets before the end of my work day, that just means the stars come out sooner. Finally, my recent purchase of an ultra-wide lens should motivate me to get out there.
Of course some things make it a little more difficult. I've learned the most important piece of equipment is my massive poofy down jacket. I attempted a two layered glove approach this morning - one thin, dexterous glove underneath a thick, insulated Micky-mouse sized glove. The idea, if I have to take the larger glove off to make some adjustments, I won't be bare handed. Unfortunately, frost bite on my finger is evidence this approach may need some fine tuning.
I'm pretty excited to explore some winter scenery and I have a handful of ideas. Just so long as I can convince myself to get out of my warm comfortable bed first thing in the morning.
